Rishikesh and Phool Chatti Ashram

We arrived in Rishikesh – Laxman Jhula – at about 10:30 at night. Everything was very quiet. It was so serene. Crossing the Ganges by a wire suspension foot bridge we found the hotel we were aiming for amongst the alleyways and closed stalls. The Ganga View Hotel didn’t actually have any views over the Ganga (Ganges) river but was welcoming, clean and very cheap. There was no need to book a room, we just turned up and weren’t even asked to check in until the morning. It was 200Rs (£2.24 / $3.64) a night for a double room with… Read more »

First Taste Of India: Arrival in Delhi

We arrived in Delhi at 02:20 on the day of Mahatma Ghandi’s birthday. We had booked the Vivek Hotel to come and pick us up from the airport as we’d heard of scams and arrived at 3:00am. However, there was no-one to meet us amid the chaos outside arrivals and we had no way of contacting the hotel. The army officers stationed at the airport took some convincing to let us back into the arrivals lounge to purchase a pre-paid taxi ticket so we could get to the hotel. We shared the taxi with a French couple going to the… Read more »

Venetian Romance And Posh Food

Hello from Venice!  This is one of the most unique and beautiful cities we’ve visited so far. Also one of the most expensive! Don’t go to Venice without some extra money saved up. The Architecture is magnificent and the waterways not only make the place one of a kind, but free the city from cars and traffic filled roads – this is the best thing about Venice. The second best thing about Venice is the food. I love Italian food the best (who doesn’t?) so inspired we decided to treat ourselves to a quality meal in a proper restaurant. We’ve… Read more »

Planning for India

It’s our last night in Verona, northern Italy. Been chilling out at a campsite here for three days. Right in the middle of the city with a beautiful view of the old part of town and the river. Verona is nice, it’s laid back and the campsite has everything we need. The architecture is beautiful and the view from our tent is picturesque. As there’s not a lot to do here is giving us a bit of time to think about India. We only have three weeks left before we fly to Delhi and we’re just trying to use this… Read more »

The Atlas Mountains – Casscade D’Ouzoud

After a great friend from Switzerland gave me some advice, we headed off in the direction of Azilal and The Ouzoud Falls. After a 5 hour bus ride in sauna conditions, we arrived in the lower atlas mountains. There was no bus stop and you have to request to be dropped off at a junction in the road and dodge the touts waiting for you. The drop off point is 15 minutes walk or a short taxi journey from the most magnificent waterfalls I have ever seen. The largest fall being 110m at the source, flowing down the river to… Read more »
