“ It has been a pleasure to work with Ralph on our company website. The site looks great and Ralph has delivered the feel and impression we were after; we now have full control over keeping the site up to date, and adding new content through Wordpress.
Ralph has been able to deal with any problems we’ve encountered quickly and effectively, while we’ve got to grips with the software. ” - Richard Caink - Director and chief tree surgeon at Whole Tree
Another environmental website design project I’ve completed at blueleaf; Whole tree are Aboriculturists and work on many environmental projects such as woodland planting and management as well as commercial tree surgery for both local councils and private clients.
The design of the website was to be kept simple and on a minimal budget, using only out-of-the-box functionality as much as possible and keeping custom development work to a minimum. The design of the site needed to convert a professional and clean-working attitude combined with care for the environment and the “Outdoors”. With this in mind the colour scheme was based on the existing branding together with colours taken directly from Photographs of a woodland that Whole tree had worked in.
Being a local business, SEO and inclusion of local area names was paramount. A Blog was also incorporated and imported form the companies existing blogger account to help improve SEO and provide more information on the work being offered. Close attention was paid to the page markup using up-to-date HTML5 and micro data in the form of schema.org attributes to get the most from search engines. I provided CMS functionality to test the effectiveness of each article or post in regards to SEO.
The main functions of the website include a list of services offered, a contact form, an online reviews system, blog and gallery. The front page is an overview of the companies services with selected testimonials and an embedded video. For connectivity, the header of every page includes a contact phone number, a link to Facebook, Yell.com (yellow pages), email and google plus.
To get ahead of the competition and inspire confidence in potential customers I included an online review system where clients can leave feedback in the form of a star rating and a written comment. Site administrators are required to approve comments before they are published to the site so that content spelling and grammar can be checked. Administrators are also able to leave a reply to reviews opening up discussion and allowing them to amend problems for unsatisfied customers, thereby retaining the customer.
