Rishikesh and Phool Chatti Ashram

We arrived in Rishikesh – Laxman Jhula – at about 10:30 at night. Everything was very quiet. It was so serene. Crossing the Ganges by a wire suspension foot bridge we found the hotel we were aiming for amongst the alleyways and closed stalls. The Ganga View Hotel didn’t actually have any views over the Ganga (Ganges) river but was welcoming, clean and very cheap. First Taste Of India: Arrival in Delhi

We arrived in Delhi at 02:20 on the day of Mahatma Ghandi’s birthday. We had booked the Vivek Hotel to come and pick us up from the airport as we’d heard of scams and arrived at 3:00am. However, there was no-one to meet us amid the chaos outside arrivals and we had no way of contacting the hotel. The army officers stationed at the airport took some convincing to let us back into the arrivals lounge to purchase a pre-paid taxi ticket so we could get to the hotel.
